Abstract
ABSTRACT The sinus lift procedure is a safe and predictable technique that allows implant placement in atrophic posterior maxillae. However, certain recommendations must be followed by the patient to ensure reliable healing. It is particularly important to avoid any trauma in the affected area, especially around the sinuses. This report describes a rare complication occurring after a sinus graft, attributed to a violent sneeze a few hours post-operation. The diagnosis of emphysema due to air entry was confirmed by the sudden onset of swelling accompanied by crepitus, as well as by radiographic observation of a well-defined radiolucent area in the grafted sinus. Immediate diagnosis and rapid management prevented further complications. This case report highlights the importance of thorough patient information following oral surgery, as well as prompt diagnosis and appropriate management of emphysema.
