Regular dental check-ups help you detect any issues early and ensure optimal prevention. Our dentists support you in preserving your oral health.

What is a dental check-up?

A dental check-up is a comprehensive examination performed by a dentist to evaluate the condition of your teeth, gums and entire oral cavity. This preventive appointment helps you maintain good oral hygiene and prevents the development of more complex conditions.

Why have regular dental check-ups?

Regular dental check-ups help you detect cavities, periodontal disease and other abnormalities at an early stage. They also contribute to fresh breath, pain prevention, and long-term protection of your overall health.

Dental Check-up Appointment Procedure

  1. First consultation: welcome and comprehensive oral examination

Upon your arrival, you are welcomed by our teams in a calm and caring environment. Time is taken to listen to you and answer your questions, helping you feel at ease.

The consultation begins with a medical and dental questionnaire to better understand your medical history and current situation. The dentist then performs a comprehensive clinical examination of your teeth, gums and oral mucosa. Depending on your needs, radiographs or photographs may be taken to obtain an accurate diagnosis. If necessary, digital 3D impressions are also carried out to plan and personalise any potential treatment. All of these examinations are performed gently and without pain.

  1. Second appointment: diagnosis and personalised treatment plan

Following the assessment, the results are explained to you in a clear and understandable manner. If treatment is indicated, a personalised treatment plan is presented to you during a second appointment. This plan takes into account your clinical situation, your needs, your expectations and your budget. All available options are explained so that you can make an informed decision with confidence.

  1. Follow-up and prevention

Follow-up and prevention are an integral part of care at Ardentis. You receive personalised advice on oral hygiene, and regular check-up appointments are scheduled to prevent the development of new issues and to preserve your long-term oral health.

A dental check-up is generally recommended at least once a year. For children, at-risk individuals or patients undergoing specific treatments, more frequent check-ups may be advised.

Frequently Asked Questions about Dental Check-Ups

How often should I have a dental check-up?

It is recommended to see your dentist at least once a year for a routine check-up. In some cases, if you are at risk or have a history of cavities or gum disease, a visit every six months may be advised. Regular check-ups help you detect issues early and prevent more extensive treatments.

What does the dentist check during a visit?

The dentist examines your entire mouth, including your teeth, gums, oral mucosa and jaw joints. They look for cavities, inflammation, tartar buildup or any other signs of oral disease. When necessary, X-rays may be recommended to obtain a more precise diagnosis.

Is a dental check-up painful?

No, a dental check-up is not painful. It involves a visual examination and, when necessary, a light scaling to remove tartar. The goal is prevention rather than treatment. If you are particularly sensitive, the dentist adapts to your needs and can provide gentle and comfortable care.

What is the difference between a check-up and dental scaling?

A dental check-up is a comprehensive examination of your mouth designed to detect potential issues. Scaling, on the other hand, is a hygiene treatment performed by the dentist or dental hygienist to remove plaque and tartar. Both are complementary, as scaling is often recommended during your annual check-up.

Are dental check-ups covered by insurance in Switzerland?

In Switzerland, dental check-ups are generally not covered by basic health insurance (LAMal). However, some supplementary insurance plans may cover part of the cost, especially for children and preventive care. It is advisable to check with your insurer for coverage details.
