Abstract

ABSTRACT This article aims to evaluate and compare the 10-year bone anchorage and the protrusion of implants into the sinus using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) and periapical X-rays. Implants (≤10 mm) were placed with osteotome sinus floor elevation (OSFE) without grafting in maxillae with a bone height of ≤8 mm. After 10 years, the CBCT analysis showed bone on the buccal and palatal sides of the implants and corroborated the results obtained with periapical X-rays. In the absence of any symptoms or complications, two-dimensional radiography is sufficient for routine long-term follow-up of implants placed with OSFE without grafting.
