Why is dental scaling important?

Dental plaque is a sticky film of bacteria that can cause cavities and gum disease if it is not removed through regular brushing and flossing. Over time, plaque hardens and turns into tartar, which cannot be removed by brushing alone and may lead to more serious issues. Dental scaling helps remove accumulated plaque and tartar, protect your teeth and gums, and contributes to fresh breath and a lasting feeling of cleanliness.

Why have regular dental scaling?

Regular dental scaling helps prevent cavities and periodontitis, which can lead to tooth loss. By effectively removing plaque and tartar, it also ensures fresh breath and contributes to your overall health.

How does a scaling session work at Ardentis ?

At Ardentis, your dental scaling is performed by our experienced dental hygienists, who use the most advanced techniques to ensure effective and comfortable care. We notably use the Guided Biofilm Therapy® (GBT) method by EMS Dental, which is based on an eight-step approach. This innovative method effectively removes dental plaque and helps prevent oral diseases, while ensuring optimal comfort.

  1. Initial examination and assessment: an initial assessment is carried out to detect the presence of dental biofilm and to evaluate the overall condition of your teeth and gums.
  2. Disclosure : a special dye is applied to reveal invisible dental biofilm, allowing for targeted and thorough removal.
  3. Motivation : the hygienist shows you the areas where biofilm is present and explains brushing and oral hygiene techniques (dental floss and interdental brushes) to help you remove it effectively at home.
  4. Airflow® : an Airflow® device is used to remove biofilm and superficial stains using a combination of water, air and fine powder, ensuring deep cleaning without damaging your dental surfaces.
  5. Perioflow® : iif you suffer from gum problems, the Perioflow® device is used to thoroughly clean your periodontal pockets, thereby reducing inflammation and the risk of infection.
  6. Piezon® : the Piezon® ultrasonic device is then used to remove any remaining subgingival tartar (below the gum line) in a precise and gentle manner.
  7. Control : a new disclosure is applied to verify that all biofilm and tartar have been completely removed.
  8. Follow-up appointment : a personalised follow-up plan is put in place to help you maintain good oral hygiene and prevent the formation of new tartar.

Is dental scaling painful?

Scaling is generally painless. If your teeth or gums are sensitive, you may experience slight discomfort, which is always taken into account by our teams. Our dental hygienists use gentle techniques tailored to your sensitivity to ensure a comfortable treatment, even if you are anxious or particularly sensitive.

What is the difference between scaling and whitening?

Scaling removes plaque and tartar to prevent cavities and gum disease.
Teeth whitening, on the other hand, aims to brighten the colour of your teeth for a more radiant smile.
These are two complementary treatments with different objectives.

How long does a dental scaling session take?

A session typically lasts between 45 and 60 minutes, depending on your oral hygiene. It includes an assessment, deep cleaning, polishing, and personalized advice for at-home care.

Is dental scaling covered by insurance?

Scaling is often partially reimbursed by supplementary insurance, depending on your contract. Coverage varies based on the case and frequency of care. Contact your insurer to confirm your coverage.

How often should scaling be done?

It is recommended to have scaling performed once or twice a year, depending on your oral hygiene and specific needs. If you have a higher risk of gum disease or faster tartar buildup, more frequent sessions may be necessary. Your dental hygienist will guide you and recommend the most appropriate frequency for your situation, simply and clearly.
