Clear aligners offer you a discreet and comfortable alternative to traditional braces. They allow you to align your teeth effectively while fitting naturally into your daily life.

What is orthodontics with clear aligners?

Clear aligners are removable, invisible, and comfortable trays, custom-made to gradually reposition your teeth. Unlike traditional braces, they offer you an aesthetic alternative while ensuring effective and precise orthodontic treatment.

How does the treatment work ?

Clear aligners apply gentle, gradual pressure to your teeth to move them into the desired position.

Here is the process:

  • A consultation is carried out with a dentist experienced in Invisalign® aligners or with an orthodontist.
  • A 3D intraoral scan is used to take a precise digital impression of your teeth.
  • A personalized treatment plan is then created using advanced computer software.
  • A series of custom-made aligners is provided and worn throughout the treatment.
  • Each aligner is worn for approximately one to two weeks before being replaced with the next one.
  • The duration of the treatment varies depending on your situation, but generally ranges from six months to two years.

Frequently Asked Questions about Clear Aligners

What is a clear aligner?

A clear aligner is a transparent, removable tray that gradually corrects teeth alignment. Unlike metal braces, aligners are nearly invisible and very comfortable. They are custom-made from digital impressions, ensuring a perfect fit for the patient’s teeth. Aligners are particularly popular with adults and teenagers seeking a discreet and effective solution.

How long should aligners be worn each day?

To ensure effectiveness, aligners should be worn about 20 to 22 hours per day. They should only be removed for eating, drinking (other than water), and brushing teeth. Consistent wear is essential to achieve the desired results within the expected timeframe. Insufficient wear can prolong treatment and prevent teeth from moving as planned.

How long does treatment with aligners take?

Treatment duration varies depending on case complexity. On average, it ranges from 6 to 24 months. Minor corrections, such as slight crowding, may be resolved quickly, while more complex cases require more time. Your orthodontist will create a personalized plan based on 3D impressions, with a clear estimate of the expected treatment duration.

Do aligners cause pain?

Aligners apply gentle pressure to gradually move teeth. It is normal to feel slight discomfort or sensitivity when switching to a new aligner (every 1 to 2 weeks). This sensation is temporary and usually fades quickly. Overall, aligners are considered more comfortable than traditional fixed appliances because they have no wires or metal brackets.

Are aligners covered by insurance?

In Switzerland, basic insurance (LAMal) does not cover aesthetic orthodontic treatments, including aligners. However, some supplementary insurance plans may cover part of the cost, especially for younger patients. It is recommended to check your policy before starting treatment. Even without reimbursement, aligners remain a valuable investment for oral health and smile aesthetics.
