Orthodontics
Orthodontics helps align your teeth and enhance your smile through modern treatments. Our specialist dentists use advanced techniques to correct dental misalignments and preserve your oral health in a lasting way.
THE ESSENTIAL
Orthodontics helps correct the alignment of your teeth and the position of your jaws to improve both your oral health and the aesthetics of your smile.
At Ardentis, our specialists offer you solutions tailored to every age.
What is orthodontics?
Orthodontics includes treatments designed to correct the alignment of your teeth and jaws.
Using fixed or removable appliances, visible or invisible, it helps restore the aesthetics of your smile and the proper function of your dentition.
Why undergo orthodontic treatment?
Orthodontic treatment helps improve the aesthetics of your smile while preventing functional problems such as chewing difficulties, premature tooth wear or certain joint pains. It also contributes to your overall health.
Orthodontic Treatment Procedure:
- Diagnosis and Treatment Plan: Complete oral examination. X-rays and digital impressions. Personalized treatment plan established by the specialist.
- Placement of the Orthodontic Appliance: Fixed appliance (braces) or removable appliance (clear aligners). Regular adjustments to guide tooth movement.
- Follow-up and Personalized Advice: Regular check-ups. Tailored hygiene recommendations. Support throughout the entire treatment.

“Regaining a smile is sometimes regaining a life.”
Frequently Asked Questions about Orthodontics
At what age can orthodontic treatment begin?
A first orthodontic check-up is recommended for your child around the age of 7, even though treatment may not start this early. At this age, the specialist can already detect potential jaw growth issues or tooth misalignment. Depending on the situation, they may recommend monitoring or early interceptive treatment. Fixed appliances or aligners are usually fitted later, around 11–13 years of age, when the permanent teeth are in place.
How long does orthodontic treatment take?
The duration of your orthodontic treatment varies depending on the complexity of your case and the type of appliance used. On average, treatment lasts between 12 and 36 months. Simple corrections may sometimes be completed in less than a year, while more complex cases require more time.
Good oral hygiene and following your orthodontist’s instructions help reduce treatment time and ensure a stable result.
Do braces hurt?
When your orthodontic appliance is fitted or adjusted, it is normal to experience some discomfort or mild pain for a few days. This sensation is due to the pressure applied to move your teeth. It usually subsides quickly and can be relieved with mild painkillers, if necessary. Newer techniques, such as clear aligners, are generally more comfortable and better tolerated than traditional metal braces.
What are the different orthodontic treatment options?
Today, several solutions are available to correct the alignment of your teeth. Traditional metal braces remain effective, while ceramic braces offer a more discreet option. Clear aligners (such as Invisalign®) provide an aesthetic and removable alternative, particularly popular among adults. Lingual orthodontics is a discreet technique in which braces are placed on the inner surface of your teeth, making the appliance completely invisible from the outside. Your orthodontist will choose the most suitable method based on your age, the complexity of your case and your expectations.
Is orthodontics covered by insurance?
In Switzerland, disability insurance (AI) may cover your orthodontic treatment in certain severe cases related to specific malformations, and only before the age of 21. In most cases, your supplementary insurance may partially or fully cover the cost of treatment, depending on your policy. It is therefore advisable to check with your insurer before starting treatment. Orthodontics remains a long-term investment in the health and aesthetics of your smile.
